Views of Akutan
Akutan is one of the Eastern Aleutian Islands. On a clear day, one can climb to the top of the mountain behind the village and see many of the neighboring islands. The village of Akutan lies on a bay on the east side of the island.

Wolfgang Brinck on the pass overlooking hot springs valley. The bottom of the valley is home to a small herd of cattle that has gone feral after being introduced and then abandoned sometime in the past century. The cows find fodder year round in vegatation nurtured by the hot springs.
Kurt tosses a rock on to a rock pile at the top of the pass. Traditionally,if the rock stays on the pile you will be alright, if it rolls off, you are fated to die within the next year.

A walk down the beach east of the village takes us past one of the many waterfalls on the island.
At the east end of Akutan, the island of Akun is visible across the pass.
Volcanic debris deposited in past eruptions of Akutan Volcano is sculpted into fantastic shapes by wind and waves.
The rim of Akutan volcano's caldera is visible against the sky. Akutan owes its existence to the volcano which is still active and has erupted as recently as a few decades ago.
