Getting to Akutan

Akutan is one of the Eastern Aleutian Islands. It can be reached by boat or plane. Akutan currently does not have a landing strip for planes and so it is serviced by amphibian plane, the Goose. The Goose flies between Dutch Harbor and Akutan several times a day when the weather permits it. However, the weather may not be suitable for days on end. Travellers may have to wait for up to a week in either Dutch Harbor or Akutan waiting for the weather to clear so they can make the 45 mile flight.

During the summer, the ferry visits Akutan once a month en route to Dutch harbor.

And on occasion if the weather is bad for days on end and the Goose can't fly, it's possible to hitch a ride on the freighter, here tied up on the dock in Dutch Harbor.
